Training dogs should be fun, not just for the owners, but more importantly the dogs should enjoy it too. In this DVD, one of the country's leading pet behaviour counsellors, John Fisher, spends a day with Philippa Williams, a member of the Association of Pet Dog Treiners at ther "Tuffley Tails K9 Education Centre" (APDT) in the very picteresque surroundings of Hartpury College in Gloucestershire. We see a wide variety of dogs of all breeds, learning to be well behaved and clearly enjoying every minute of it. We see these dogs learning the basics of walking to heel, sitting, standing and laying down when they are told, coming when they are called and even learning life-saving excersises like the instant "stop" or "do not touch".
Training dogs to obey commands in essential if they are to "fit in" and conform to the increased social pressures of our modern society and the exercises taught at Tuffley Tails are aimed towards this practical purpose. All the training is done through reward and motivating the dogs to want to perform the task required. Punishment for wrong behaviour does not fit into the scene and the dreaded "choke chain" is very noticeable by its complete absence.
Fun, force-free dog training not only successfully trains your dog to be a well behaved pet, it can also be highly effective for training to a much higher standard. In the programme you will see dogs enjoying themselves in the exciting, action-packed sports of flyball and agility. Absolute control is a priority if you want to compete with your pet at this level and the secrets of how to obtain this control are revealed in this fascinating look at owners and dogs on a fun training day.
Whether you just want a well-behaved dog, or aspire to higher levels of competition, this programme highlights the trainin ethos of APDT members and will certainly put you on the right lines to success.
